The Cresset Press issued a limited edition of D.H. Lawrence's poetry collection Birds, Beasts and Flowers in 1930, illustrated with wood engravings by Blair Hughes-Stanton; Balston had probably contacted Hermes to borrow the book for his 1949 exhibition of books illustrated by modern English wood engravers (see MA .13112.79).
