Summary
Asking if they met during the last war, suggesting they stay in touch, asking Balston if he is "still at Holt End" or if he has, like himself, offered his services to the War Office, asking if he is "digging and thinning out seedlings under cloches all in the hope of having something to eat during the winter?", remarking that "some weeks ago" he was saying that Hitler was "only bluffing", and that now he keeps saying "with less conviction, that it will be over by March"; writing that they have had "four slum boys evacuated from Leith" staying with them, and that his (his wife) Helen has cured them of their lice and impetigo, adding ""All four sleep with their parents in one bed in one room"; describing their house and situation and the attractions of the surrounding country; noting that he has been painting and asking Balston if he has been painting too.
