Thanking him for dinner the previous evening and expressing his regrets at Balston's plans to leave London, recollecting the kindness he showed the writer when he was preparing "the Dukes" (presumably a reference to Fulford's 1933 work Royal Dukes), which he deems a "complete turning point in my life", and observing that the "charm and point of Duckworth's vanished with yr. departure and I am thankful to be clear of them.".
