Summary
Writing to request some information from Balston to assist her husband, Jacob Epstein, in legal proceedings against gallery owner Godfrey Phillips "for trading while he was an undischarged bankrupt", asking for details concerning Balston's purchase of a sculpture by Jacob Epstein, explaining that the Imperial Arts League is prepared to cover the costs of the case "in order to protect for the future as si many have lost money in this gallery."; noting that "Mr. Eptein's close friend Matthew Smith has also been unable to get payment of about £800 from the same gallery.", adding that "He only exhibited there because he thought Mr. Godfrey Phillips was a friend of Mr. Epstein", and observing that Epstein is more angry at this than he is on his own behalf.
