Summary
Informing her that he no longer owns "any originals of the 1860 period" as he "got mad at one of the 'authorities' and at his works and sold them all to a museum - and have regretted doing so ever since"; warning her that "as to 'proofs' - I am afraid in certain quarters a rather profitable trade has been done in so called proofs, as a matter of fact the proofs most of them were pulled long after the blocks were made - the only genuine proofs are those which have the artists corrections on them - or which were owned - usually only a record by the engraver[?]", and concluding that proofs had "no value save as records, and to be used to write corrections on. Some of the authorities write very learnedly about the matter, only to prove that they don't know what they are talking about."
