One of a published series of of 177 portraits, published circa 1651 in Antwerp by Pieter de Jode II under the series title "Theatrum Pontificum, Imperatorum, Regum, Ducum, Principum, etc.", most of them engraved by the same (Hollstein 205-384). Other portraits are engraved by other printmakers, some after Anthony van Dyck (New Hollstein 224-249), Peter Paul Rubens, Titian and others. The series contains portraits of important foreign people, including popes, emperors, royals, archdukes, military commandors, cardinals, admirals, archbishops; from Italy, France, Germany, the Northern Netherlands, Poland, Africa, etc. Cf.
