Written on printed letterhead stationery from "Londesborough Lodge / Scarborough".
Year of writing suggested by internal evidence, including Londesborough's reference to the Indian Rebellion and the railway collision in which Lady Londesborough received some minor injuries in 1857.
Thanking her for sending him one of her writings and writing that it has amused him "extremely"; stating that they were glad to hear of her son (Augustus Gore), referring to him as "the best lad I know", and noting that she must be "very uneasy at this Indian Expedition of his" (a reference to Gore's military service in India during the rebellion of 1857-1858); mentioning Lady Londesborough and her fortunate recovery from a recent railway accident, adding "I am thankful that she had good nerve or the shock would have had serious effects upon her constitution."
