Summary
Writing to confirm that he has just received her letter of December 25th, and that he had previously seen reports of "both the events you inform me of", including the news of her husband's death; responding to news that Gore's daughter, Cecilia, is engaged to be married to M. de Chasteler (reports that would prove false, Cecilia Gore married Lord Edward Thynne in 1853), and writing that he disapproves of her "not marrying an Englishman but that is all the disapprobation I can get up"; stating that he is enjoying his stay in Italy, mentioning the sudden death of Lord Bernard Thomas Howard at Cairo, and expressing his hope that she will relocate to Hampton Court, as "then you would have Nicander as a nieghbor."
