Acknowledging receipt of a letter and giving his opinion of the publisher Richard Bentley (who he calls "a slippery fellow"), along with his observations on the mercenary and exploitative nature of publishers in general; thanking her for giving him a copy of her last book (i.e. "Mrs. Armytage"), commenting on the book's popularity, and complimenting her on her creation of the character of of "Jonny [i.e. Jack] Baltimore"; mentioning his son (Greville Morier) who is with them on holiday from Harrow.
