Summary
Concerning her play "Dacre of the South", which she has submitted to him for consideration, and which appears to him "to contain much of the true dramaticessence with scenes & situations of deep pathos & powerful effect", along with drawbacks which include "the catastrophe being foreseen", the objectionable "democratic" and "disloyal tendency of many of Dacre's speeches" which "may by some be construed into a tirade against the King's authority in general", and might prove "unpalatable to Her Majesty who has become our constant Patroness & visitor & may wish to draw a veil over the little peculiarities of her amiable ancestor"; also objecting to similarities in the situations of both the wife and sister, as well as to the tragic ending in which "the hero of the play is led off to execution", and observing that audiences prefer a happy ending; promising to read te play again when he has more time and stating that he should be "very happy if an opportunity should occur by which I could avail myself of your obliging offer."
