Acknowledging that he has received from his son Charles a key to a box letters, thanking her, and stating that he has no recollection of receiving a letter from her from abroad, and therefore looks forward "to an acquittal for the offence, of which I must have appeared to be guilty"; referring to the letters she has sent him as "very interesting memorials of a connexion from which I derived a large share of satisfaction"; returning a letter she had sent him and adding that he has "taken the liberty of causing a copy to be made, as it contains so many interesting particulars especially respecting my mother."
