Summary
Apologizing for the time it has taken her to write and relaying an "overwhelming blow", the news of her sister Rosa's death; lamenting how "the blank" affects her future existence, as their thoughts and lives were so interwoven; wishing to raise her thoughts to life eternal instead of death, but feeling the bitterness of grief; acknowledging that Charlotte has also tasted "the waters of affliction" since recently losing her mother; describing how the extreme quiet of the place has benefited her health and enabled her to regain the self-possession that allows her to appear "cheerfully resigned"; including the lines from her favorite Mr. Shee; hoping sincerely that Mr. Raikes is as well as possible and sending love to the rest of the party; letting Charlotte know that she has sent her and her sisters "a case of Minerals and Sulphurs from Vesuvius" and it is in Broad Street ready for her to pick it up whenever she would like; remarking that her mother is quite well despite losing Rosa, and is a "pious example". Postscript describing her hopes to hear from her soon, and assuring her that any news will be welcome and interesting.
