Summary
Sending best wishes to the recipient's family, thanking him for a letter, mentioning a recent visit to Tivoli, describing an impressive display of fireworks and mentioning the "grand Benediction" and the music at the Tenebrae service; complaining of the fleas; describing how they had their photographs taken at the Villa d'Este while posing as sculptures in the Vatican; stating that they will be going to Naples, speaking with regret of leaving, remarking that he hasn't been sketching, as "everything falls so short of nature & one gets such photographs"; discussing the sights he has seen in Rome, remarking that he is glad that Lent is over and writing that they went to the English Church for Easter,writing "How jolly modern Rome is" and adding that "everyone can paint here but poor me", noting that Cambridge (rowing team) has been beaten again, "but I'm not ashamed of them - light blue forever - but all of you, you excepted are Oxonians."
