Summary
Telling her how much pain her letters cause him. He says she knows how dear Henri and she are to him, yet in her letters she seems to doubt his love or devotion. He asks how he can go see them when he's overwhelemed with business and disturbing matters that prevent him from leaving Paris even for a moment? He asks if she and Henri aren't the ones being selfish by locking themselves up in such a horrible, inaccessible place. He goes every day to see if she has arrived, and her absence is fatal/very painful to him, especially in view of the fact that Henri's brotherly company was so important to him during his last stay in Paris in 1839. Nothing in the world can replace their affection. He tells Rose not to be accusative and hopes that she and Henri will return to see him so that he can read in their eyes if their love for him matches his own for them.
