Summary
Writing to say that, as a horseman himself, he can appreciate the difficulties she is having with her horse. It happens to everyone who rides. He says that there is a proverb that every man who rides a horse finds only one that suits him in his lifetime. However, if she would like a more cooperative horse, he will send her one of his, since he plans to settle down a bit for a while. He doesn't know anything about the ointment she asked about, but he'll consult his pharmacist. If it exists, he'll be glad to send it to her. The Colonel hasn't returned from Paris. He will return soon, and then they will have maneuvers before the Marshal.
