Summary
Forwarding her a proof of her article for the Universal Review and asking if she would have any objecting to putting a name on her contributions; remarking that "W. Stigand is heaving in poetic throes. He is about to bring out a volume of poems far superior to anything that Tennyson ever wrote, but more in the style of Mrs. Browning. I speak on the highest authority--his own.", adding that there is an article by Stigand on Thomas Carlyle's biography, Frederick the Great, in the Edinburgh Review "which has considerbaly augmented the sale of that periodical. I again speak on the highest authority.", and remarking "It is really pitiable to see such a clever man so contemptibly self-conceited. ... His best friends are those who pour cold water on his vanity."
