Summary
Stating that a copy of the Universal Review will be sent to Lord Elgin; informing her that Mr. Patterson has been very ill, but that he "will speak to him on the subject as soon as he returns to the office."; asking if she has seen "Col. Hamley's admirable satire on the Dumas school of fiction in Blackwood magazine", and noting that the Cornhill Magazine "is thus far a great success", although "I confess that I look down on trying to read 'Lovell [sic] the Widower'"; and commenting that he is told "that Mr. Stigant's poems are likely to find their way into 'gilded saloons.' Prosperity will do him good."
