Summary
Informing her that he has sent her letter to Shirley Brooks, and that he awaits his reply, writng that he is aware that Brooks has left the Literary Gazette, "though I believe without any quarrel with the publisher as he continues to write in Punch", and adding "The fact is that my friend Shirley though a very clever fellow has not quite ballast enough to edit a literary journal", and referring to Brooks's series of papers (for Punch) called "The council of Ten" as "absolute idiocy"; stating that he sees no reason why she should no continue as a contributor "under the new regime"; noting that 100 Eaton Square appears to be occupied, and expressing his wish that she would send him "some commission ... which would make it incumbent on me to call", and mentioning that Lord Brougham is expected in town before going to Cannes or Nice.
