Summary
Informing her that he has, on her recommendation, acquired the memoirs of Madame [Jeanne-Françoise] Recamier, stating that he has read the first volume "great interest and pleasure", expressing his regret that her original memoirs were destroyed, asking the identity of the editor and and commenting that "He seems very anti-English", but reflecting that "at present that is only saying that he is a Frenchman"; writing that "It was very illnatured to print the poor Duke's Billet doux"; remarking that "The Italian bubble has indeed burst at last" and commenting on the exposure of the "Piedmontese lies" and the current situation in Italy, mentioning Garibaldi and the challenge he will present to Parliament when it meets; saying that his friend O'Reilly is not likely to recover from his recent illness.
