Summary
Concerning Rose Blaze de Bury's poor health and impending surgery, sympathising with the severe pain she has endured as a result of her condition and wondering if she has delayed the procedure longer than she should have, encouraging her to follow through on a proposed plan to come to Ireland and emphasizing that it would be an ideal place for her to convalesce and recover her health, suggesting that she might use the time to gather materials for a book abount Ireland, "though now we are all so well behaved, & quiet that there is little to be said about us"; writing that the birth of her child took place two weeks earlier than expected and that the baby is very small but healthy, adding that [her daughter] Harriet is "much improved by her school at Boulogne in every way" and that her three boys are back from college and doing well, "They see their Uncle William [Caldwell] very often & he is most kind to them; writing that William has set up a house of his own, that [her brother-in-law] George [Rowan Hamilton] and his bride are expected soon, "they were married on the 3d of July & have been touring in Scotland - I am quite nervous at the idea of my new sister-in-law, a London swell, however if the weather is fine she will be able to enjoy out of door life", noting that she will be obliged to stay at home with the new baby, whom she has christened Helen Gwendoline, hoping that Madame de Bury's two daughters are well, and that Henriette [i.e. "Yetta"] has had "no more scuffle with Madame Marie Elizabeth!"; making further mention of family and friends.
