Summary
Wondering why British painters, when depicting classical subjects, use the same scenes over and over again; writing that Ovid's Metamorphoses is full of promising subjects and recounting one of them, in which in Odysseus feigns insanity; referring to James Augustus St. John's The History of the Manners and Customs of Ancient Greece, specifically a passage about the beauty of Alcibiades; mentioning that Louis Jullien is still giving concerts, but when they conclude they will be replaced by Isaac Van Amburgh's show, including "Mlle Camille Leroux, the celebrated figurante, who performs all manner of wonders on galloping horses"; wishing his father a Happy New Year.
