Summary
Writing in detail about their collaboration on the opera "Troubled Island," about the life of Jean-Jacques Dessalines and the Haitian Revolution; listing the differences between the play he recently sent Still and an opera outline that he had sent the previous year; suggesting books on Haiti for background reading, including Black Haiti, Black Majesty, Babouk, Black Democracy, The Magic Island, and Voodoo Fire in Haiti; responding to Still's reference to the fact that he has a "new musical typewriter" and saying that he himself has a "new writing typewriter (my other one being now 12 years old) and our libretto will be the first work done on this new machine of mine."
