Summary
The collection documents the friendship and collaborative relationship between the American painter Sandra Fisher (1947-1994) and the poets Jonathan Williams (1929-2008) and Thomas Meyer (1947-). Many of the letters are addressed to Fisher and her partner, the American artist R.B. Kitaj (1932-2007). Jonathan Williams founded The Jargon Society, an influential independent press that published many of the Black Mountain Poets. Williams's partner, the poet and translator Thomas Meyer, collaborated with Sandra Fisher on three books: Sappho (Coracle Press, 1982); Sonnets & Tableaux (Coracle Press, 1987); Monotypes & Tracings (Enitharmon Press, 1994).
