Summary
Has been hoping that in some fit of dullness or idleness Cocks would send him something about his wanderings. Has heard of him now and again from Garden [Mary Gray Garden?]. Explains that he is writing because a gentleman, Richard E. Townsend, in whose case Ruskin is not personally interested, asked to be commended to Cocks as a candidate for Queens Rectorship. Ruskin insists that he is only passing along the name and not trying to use whatever influence he might have with Cocks (which he may want to call on in the future). Ruskin would be glad to see sketches from his ramble, hopefully when they meet in town. [Charles Thomas] Newton told him of an interesting discussion with Cocks about sea waves and a clear mode of distinguishing and classifying them. Asks Cocks to send his views in full, as they would be useful to him written out.
