Summary
Ruskin says that he is perfectly able to answer the shade of Professor Phillips [the geologist John Phillips], for he knew, probably better than Seeley, the terms with which he spoke with him in the flesh. It is for Seeley's book [not Phillips' Manual of Geology] that Ruskin is going to use strong language. Seeley shall see the proof of what Ruskin says, and Seeley should make his comments on that. But Ruskin hopes that they may be a little better considered than Seeley's present letter.
