Doyle dates the letter "Sunday August the 6th 1842." Scott notes that Sunday fell on the 7th, but refers to the following letter (MA 3315.5) in which Doyle admits that he usually began the letters on Saturday night. See note 1, p. 60 in The Illustrated Letters of Richard Doyle to His Father.
