Summary
Had been meaning to reply to Oddie's letter but was "so horrorstruck and yet so pleased" at Oddie "leaving Oxford" and "getting quit of metaphysics" that he "couldn't speak--nor write." Believes that "the wisest thing a man can now really do is to keep in a pleasant home silent on all matters." "All discussion is useless. Metaphysical, much worse." "Must come to see you soon--but never was yet so wholly behind all my intentions." Says that he is "so glad you showed the drawings."
