Summary
Remarking on how pleasant it is to be in Harfleur and wishing her a safe and pleasant crossing; remarking the he is "glad to see that my Italians are continuing to act with wisdom and prowess" (presumably a reference to the progress of the 1859 Italian struggle for independence), and that he thinks "Italian affairs look better than my most sanguine hopes anticipated"; adding that "I have been right in all I have ever said about them" and that an article was to have published in the Ediburgh Review "would have turned out a prophecy had it been permitted to appear."; writing that he hopes she has read Adam Bede; asking if she would, while in London, see if she can learn if Richard le Pèlerin's "Chanson de Jerusalem" has ever been published, and, if not, learn if he is likely to find a manuscript of the work at the British Museum.
