Summary
Informing her that he met with the manager of the Star as well as the foreign editor of the paper, and was told that her letter was read "in Council" and "found to be too Anti-Gallican - which is the fault they find with their present correspondent" with whom they have had "a great deal of trouble" on account of his "tone of hostility to the present government in France"; adding that they wanted somebody "who would adopt a more conciliatory tone towards the Emperor", that they complained that their correspondent had sent them a letter they could not print, and that they asked Stigand "if you would be more manageable" ("I said of course - though I am not so sure (ahem!)"); apologizing that he cannot do more on her behalf and thanking her for reading his verses and offering him her crtiicisms; saying that he would like to contact the Brownings, but he does not know if they are in England.
