Summary
Acknowledging receipt of a letter, saying that he has attempted to call upon the Foreign Editor of the Star but has not found him in, and that he will go again tomorrow; promising to do what he can (to assist her in her efforts to find work as a Paris correspondent) but that they have to dismiss their correspondent before they can hire another; saying that he is glad that she liked his "little poem", and that "Harrison Ainsworth wrote a most enthusiatistic letter about it", expressing his hope to bring out a volume of his poems, saying that he would "like to write a piece or two for the stage" and asking for her criticisms; mentioning his admiration for Mrs. (Elizabeth Barrett) Browning, whom he regards as "the greatest poetess of our time", and adding "she is a wonderful creature Aurora Leigh is magnificent"; noting that a Mr. (Friedrich von?) Bodenstedt left a card for him and asking if she knows him, as the foreign editor of the Star, Dr. Fanchen, "is a German - & he might have influence with him", and that "Bodenstedt is the name of a German translator of Oriental poetry"; concluding "I am very careful not to let out anything and alsways say that I cannot give any name & speak of my friend as a gentleman."
