Informing her that he has put some letters in the post and explaining that he had not written to acknowledge receipt as he has been waiting for a reply from the editor of the Universal (Review); saying that he speak again to the editor regarding her article, but that the editor has told him that he "had articles already in print for whose appearance the contributors were clamorous"; apologizing for have addressed the subject of politics previously, and giving his opinion that the "masses" in England care nothing about French politics and are therefore "gulled most egregiously" in regards to the "Italian question"; stating that he believes that the "leading members of the Liberal Party have spoken too generously on the subject of Foreign politics to suit the Electoral Majority", but that he still believes in a "more generous line of policy."
