Summary
Informing her that he has had a friend write to the Illustrated London News on her behalf, only to learn that they intend to reduce the expences of the paper and will therefore not have a Paris correspondent; stating that inquiries have also been sent to the Scotsman and Lloyd's Weekly Messenger, and that he attempted to "catch" the editor of the Spectator, but has not yet been able to find him; discussing the prospect of writing for the Universal Review ("you can make a good sum per annum out of it"), stating that the editor has told him that they are more interested in pieces discussing the "general spirit" of French literature, rather than reviews of particular books, and discussing the general financial arrangements between the review and its contributors; suggesting she approach (Sir Alexander James) Beresford Hope to recommend her to the Saturday Review, asking if she is interested in the Athenaeum, and offering to contact the editor, Hepworth Dixon, for her; noting that the Stateman has come out again and that he will write them.
