Summary
Informing her that he has just received sixty dollars from the Atlantic Monthly for her article on the "French Salon"and that he has converted the sum to a bill for 300 franks and enclosed it for her; he has received a letter from Mr. (George William?) Curtis, "who is connected with Harper's Magazine", regarding her article on Dumas, stating that he liked the piece and will advise Harper to accept it for publication, but that Harper may not take Curtis's advice "as he is a little shy of French novelists"; praising her account of the trial of Montalembert; expressing his longing to return to the south of Europe and advising her, should she ever visit America, to come in the summer; asking if she has seen Longfellow's new volume (i.e. The courtship of Miles Standish) and noting that it has "had an immense circulation" and is "graphic and charming."
