Summary
Chiding her for not writing, recounting a visit with Stanislas Marquis de Stackpole (i.e. George Stanislaus de Stacpoole?) during which they discussed Madame Blaze de Bury and the writer learned of her recent trip to Italy; asking if she met the Sloanes and Hügels while in Florence, expressing great admiration for Baron (Karl Alexander, von?) Hügel and his wife Elizabeth; saying that he/she is staying with the Bradshaws in Leamington, asking Rose if she will be coming to England, mentioning a possible trip to Paris with an unmarried older sister, a recent trip to Scotland where the weather was unseasonably warm, and relating news of family and friends, including the illness of Mrs. Douglas Baird, vitality of Sir David Brewster, and death of Charles Andrew Caldwell (1785-1859); asking after "the precious one in the R. de Lille" (evidently a reference to Lady Elizabeth Elgin) to whom the writer refers as "the one great love of my life" and mentioning Lady Elgin's son (James Bruce Elgin) and his "glorious" career in China.
