Summary
Informing her that she has written Charlotte Locker to arrange for payment for "the French girl's journey" (i.e. the sister of Madame Blaze de Bury's maid, who is to be employed by Lady Elgin) and to prepare for the girl's arrival and asking Madame Blaze de Bury to inform her should any difficulties arise in the matter; mentioning Lord Elgin and "this distressing China news - so great a blow to all his hopes of having promoted Peace & good feeling in those regions" and that he is "painfully engrossed by this business - as well as by the generally unsettled or alarming state of politics".
