Summary
Writing that she hopes to "scratch together" enough money to allow her to visit Madame Blaze de Bury in Paris; complaining of the dullness of her life; asking if she has received a copy of "The Leader" which was sent to her by the writer and which contains a review of Madamde Blaze de Bury's book Memoirs of the Princess Palatine; noting that the review was written by Mrs. Trelawney, "a friend of Lewis and J.G. Cooke" and expressing her fondness for both Mrs. Trelawney and J.G. (John George) Cooke; observing that "Nothing is talked of but war ... the Queen's speech is exceptionally war-like - Prince Albert is as unpopular as he can be ... they are preparing for departure at the Russian Embassy - selling their horses and so forth", and asking her if she is "so little patriotic as to wish to break the English alliance? for it is of that wch you are accused"; mentioning mutual friends and acquaintances.
