Summary
Concerning the final illness of her son ("my boy") who has been diagnosed with a tumor that is "cancerous and situated on the lungs as well as extending very much externally" and her struggle to resign herself to the loss of her son while maintaining hope for his recovery; writing that she intends to send an account of her boy's illness, along with a photograph, for Madame Blaze de Bury to show to surgeons in Paris in the hopes that they may be able to suggest a cure; stating that she is glad to hear good reports of the Blaze de Bury's two daughters, Yetta and Fernande, and expressing her concern over their "pecuniary troubles", assuring Rose that she will not "breathe a hint of the cousins communication" concerning an uncle who, she hopes, "may soon find himself in Heaven" unless someone can convince him that "the real kindness" would be "in opening his purse now instead of keeping it all hoarded up for the future, while the present subjects those he wishes to benefit to much grievious anxiety and pain."
