Summary
Concerning the monotony of her daily life and the loss of friends to death and illness; regretting that Madame Blaze de Bury will be coming to London during the worst season for weather; informing her that "the Caldwell girls" Louisa (and Mary) will be in town, that "Catherine & tribe are all well", although she is "sorry to say" that Catherine is "likely to add to her nursery!", and adding that Mrs. Henry Caldwell (i.e. Mary Eleanor) is expecting a child at Christmas time; commenting on the possibility of war ("What you say of war is not a pleasant prospect - but I think we have to thank our vile press for driving it on - we have goaded our nieghbors, till we force them into hostility ... we have war taxes enough already"); describing the pleasant weather they are having in Brighton and stating that she will probably not return until Christmas.
