Summary
Thanking Henri for his two recent letters and saying that, like Henri, he is hoping for an end to the war (most likely a reference to the Crimean War); complimenting Henri on his writing style, which, unlike that of so many historians, brings events to life through its pertinence and anecdotes; adding that he read with great interest an article on Prussia in the Revue des deux mondes, stating that he would like Henri to tell him who the author is. He also says that Henri's letters contain important facts about conversations of Lord Palmerston and a speech by Cobden and that he would like more information about the effects of the latter and more details about the former. He would also like to read Henri's observations about what just happened in Rome, which will have such serious consequences for the present and the future.
