Summary
Saying "Your letter says all that I feel. At last! But my joy is touched with solemnity & all the better for that. At this moment, as I write, history is being made. We shall know the nature of the chapter being added very shortly. My only brother is in the thick of it, so are many, many of my best friends, and I would not have them elsewhere for the world. I will send you a wire then the news comes. It is strange to see this Empire wake from sleep, & yawn & stretch its limbs to the earth's end. We shall have 707000 men 7000 miles away in some few weeks time. And may God defend the right!"
