Summary
Saying "I had hoped to have had before this the opinions wh, as I understood, you expected to send me. However, I am just going away for a much needed holiday & there might be some delay in our communications during the next month or two. I think it better on the whole, therefore, to send you the £25. I trust in you & your brother that it will not be misspent - nothing would give me so much pleasure as to help a deserving man to make a place for himself. My address will be for a little time to come, Waterhead Hotel / Coniston, / Ambleside. The name reminds me that I shall be a near neighbour of Mr. Ruskin's with whom I have some acquaintance. If you could send me any drawing of your brother's I might be able to show it to that insane genius & his opinion, if encouraging, might be worth something. He is so queer that I could promise nothing; but if you like to try the experiment, I might get some words of goodwill from him - for he is good natured in private - wh. would encourage a youth. I could not understand your reference to 'London' and the article about [illegible]. Has it anything to do with the paper to wh. you have been lately contributing? Payn showed me yesterday an article of yours upon a Miss Grant of whom I confess I then heard for the first time; but I thought the whole really well written & feel sure that you will be able to command a market for such wares & in better periodicals (if I may say so) than London."
