Summary
Saying "I wish to send you a copy of my Indian reminiscences, which I hope you will accept as a New Year's gift from me; but, before despatching the book, I write to ask if you are still living at Barnes. Kindly let me know. I trust you are keeping well and that the "New Review" continues to flourish. It must gratify you to see how well the country has responded to the call for increasing the Navy. I remember your telling me that when you took over the Editorship of the Review, you bargained that the first 12 Numbers should each contain an article about the Navy. It may be necessary for us soldiers to get you to help us to have the Army increase and, what is even more essential, properly trained. With every good wish of the season in which Lady Roberts joins."
