Summary
Concerning an article by Madame de Bury on the subject of America's view of England, which she has read and passed along to her friends, and stating that they all think it "very clever"; noting that the article brings together passages from two different works to show "the 'Saxons' from an American point of view", wondering that the Saturday review found fault with it, and relating a minor criticism one of her friends had concerning the title of the piece ("It reads thus - 'De la vie Americaine des Anglaise' - but there is nothing about America, only an American's thoughts about England."); saying that they have been "following with great interest the course of your celebrated trial", adding "you know where our sympathies were naturally"; discussing the performance given by "Dear Sophy" in a play performed at Col. Challoner's; commenting on the Colonel's fiance Miss [Henrietta Emma Helena] de Salis and describing her as a "charming", "unaffected", and "delightful" young woman who was "delighted to be made much of & the first object of attention to a man whom she esteemed"; briefly relating news of friends and family.
