Writing that he is glad to hear of her safe journey and remarking that she must be weary of "this dirty coal smoky pestiferous London climate"; confirming that he received a parcel of letters and papers she sent to his rooms; informing her that her rooms have been let to a friend of his and (Walter) Mantell's, a New Zealand sheep farmer named Mr. Shepherd; remarking that he is glad she has met "Mr. Cooke" (i.e., John Douglas Cook, founding editor of the Saturday Review) as she may "get a cracker in the Saturday Review now & then"; asking her to call on Miss Emily Stapleton in Paris as he doesn't know "how she is getting on"; saying that he is sorry he missed seeing Madame de Bury the other day, briefly relating news of family, and sending his regards.
