Summary
Asking her if Drouot is in Paris, telling her that a parcel of Canadian bonds in his possession recently went missing and that he has stopped payment on them and placed the case in the hands of a detective; expressing his regret at hearing that she is "going back in health", relating news of mutual friends and acquaintances, mentioning the Trelawneys and stating that (Walter) Mantell (also known as "Matara") "is going to take Ellen to New Zealand with him - I feel a wild hankering to go with him too - it would get rid of so many miseries"; complaining that "business is very slack", suggesting that she might send some business his way "thro Ld B[rougham] or others", and asking that she let him know should she "hear of any great event on your side of political importance", noting that timely news of "that Austrian movement in April would have been worth a thousand pounds an hour to many here."
