Summary
Discussing, at length and in detail, Henley's criticism of her performance; saying "Your praise is magnificent - it makes me happy & very humble - Every word of censure is fully & perfectly just - I accept all & understand all - & will work guided by all;" discussing specific comments that she does not understand: adding "I hope you will come & see me in London? You must - to see that I have profited by your hints - I thought of asking for two invitations for you for each performance hoping that your wife & you need them - & perhaps your brother Anthony might like to come - Shall this be? Now how can I thank you for having taken all this great trouble for me? Indeed I do not know - but I shall never forget it - & not the least happy of my acting memories will be the kindness - the sympathy - the patient friendship I found in you. I have been in with one of those feverish attacks for which I have a specialty - & was made to sleep last night - after not having slept for 5 nights - with chloral - I think I am still chloralish - very - Pray excuse me."
