Notes
This letter is one of twenty-nine letters from Anne Jenkin to Henley, most of which are undated, but appear to have been written between 1878-1883.
The year of writing is not given however Henley's editorship of The London Magazine ended in 1878 and Jenkin also refers to her production of Antony & Cleopatra to which she refers in a previous letter and which was to be held in May. A penciled notation at the top of the letter suggests the year was 1878. The place of writing is also not given though it appears likely it was Edinburgh.

Summary
Concerning an opening for a staff writer at the Manchester Guardian; saying "I hear today from Mr. C.P. Scott that he is seeking a permanent writer to be on the staff of the Manchester Guardian - who would have regular work to do, & who would have to live in Manchester - He says 'I do not imagine that Mr. Henley would at all think of applying for such a post.' He has no outside work to offer at all. I think it not to tell you this - in case you might think it worth while pro tem : of course I do not know - You would get it - I fancy - at once - if you did care to think of it. We telegraphed Mr. Scott that we knew nothing but would communicate at once with you;" giving Scott's address and adding "Pardon me if I have done wrong in giving you the trouble of writing to him. I felt I did not know enough of your wishes to justify me in giving any answer myself - They say Cleo is going to be very good."
