Summary
Saying that he ought to have recognized the recipient as the author a recent article on La Charpillon in Notes and queries, and stating that he is himself not a "scholarly student" of Casanova, "being mainly interested in him from the psychological & literary standpoint", although he was at one point "anxious to trace" an advertisement placed by Casanova in an English newspaper, but found that "newspapers of that period are not easy to find."; suggesting that Bleackley bring out an annotated translation of the English section of Casanova's Memoirs, as "So valuable a picture of English eighteenth century life ought to be accessible in a scholarly English version", adding that it is his impression that this portion of the Memoirs is not as shocking as "some other portions one can think of."
