Summary
Saying "Sad though things may seem it is but right to try and be cheery at this time. I know - none better - what you must feel. Few have lost as you have lost : yet few have had what you had. And what a [illegible] memory you have to look back on. I have just had a letter from Charles Whibley about things. He is a good friend if ever there was one. It is vexing to hear of your burglary. I hope Nigel's report will show things not to be very bad & that the letting of the house will go on. I am sending you my usual Christmas card. Not that I expect you to look at it, but I like to send it."
