Acknowledging her recent invitation for him to visit the Chataways at Rotherwick ("Shall I confess what I said to myself, when I got to the words in your letter 'do please come to see us'? I said 'No, I don't care to, she'll think herself too old to be kissed now!' But when I got to the end of the letter, I took rather a different view. "), and making arrangements to take a train to Hook Station to meet her sometime in January.
